My studio in the Dandenong Ranges.

My early interest in art led me to undertake training as an art teacher with a major in ceramics. After completing my degree, I taught in secondary schools for about fifteen years and during that time I was producing my own ceramic work – both functional items and sculpture. After many years working in clay however, I became disenchanted with the ceramic process because of the multiple stages involved before reaching a finished product.

I then started to experiment with manipulating metal sheets and discovered that I could create vessel forms by joining the metal and combining it with other materials. This led to further experimentation with decoration techniques and I learned how to combine rust and copper paints with normal enamels for some exciting surface decoration effects.

As well as the vases, I also used these techniques to create a series of wall panels  that could be used indoors or outside. Soon after this I began to experiment with abstract paintings on canvas as well.

Even though facing my first blank canvas was a bit daunting, it was fortunately a reasonably easy transition as a lot of my preferred decoration techniques for pottery had been abstract in origin.

Currently my artwork can be divided into three main areas:

painting      sculptural vases        garden art

I enjoy the variety of switching between the various techniques. My techniques and style are constantly evolving and I am looking forward to being able to display new work on the website on a regular basis. I hope you enjoy viewing it. If you have any comments, feedback or questions I would like to hear from you.
