Currently all my paintings are created using enamel spray paints. For me it is mostly an intuitive process. Each painting starts off either as an initial idea, which I then build on and change, or sometimes I will select a colour range and just experiment. Nearly all of them end up being very different from how they started or how I imagined they would turn out – the difficulty often is knowing when they are finished! If you take that extra step then often the painting is ruined.

Some paintings are finished in one session whereas others are completed over days or even weeks. I will usually let a finished painting “sit” for a while to see whether I am happy with the result. If I am not 100% satisfied I will either recycle the canvas or make further changes to the work.

I use found objects, tape, latex and shapes that I design to mask out areas of the painting. This enables me to create multiple layers in each painting. All paintings are done on canvas unless marked otherwise and can be hung as is or taken off their frame and professionally mounted.

The vases that I make are currently all created from aluminium or ceramics. The surfaces are either left in their natural shiny state or painted with enamel and/ or acrylic paints. Often I will use copper or metal paints as well and then use an accelerated ageing process to oxidise the surface and develop some beautiful rust  and copper green surfaces.

Initially the vases are designed on paper or in my head and then they evolve as the building process occurs. I like to take advantage of the way the metal is easily crumpled as well as often creating contrasts between shiny and painted surfaces. The painted surfaces are usually done with the same approach as my canvas paintings ie. mostly intuitive in design and abstract in theme.

The vases are sealed inside so that they hold water (unless marked otherwise) and sealed externally so that the rust or copper surfaces don’t continue changing.

Courtyard art is a term to describe wall mounted panels that can be displayed externally. Many contemporary homes have areas such as entrance foyers, external walls and fences, outdoor rooms, barbeque areas, balconies and courtyards where traditional art forms can't be safely displayed. These courtyard art items are designed to withstand the elements and in some cases could even be adapted as water features.

Presently all the designs are 2D art and are designed to be hung on a vertical surface. They are mounted over a concealed wooden frame which allows them to be displayed easily and gives the appearance of the pictures floating on the surface.
